I was raised in the South, and when you're raised in the South you learn that the only thing that is socially acceptable on a Saturday in the fall is football, and that football requires an outfit. One you thought about prior to Saturday morning. It's a fact....unless of course you're rooting for Florida or Tennessee, then I'm not sure WHAT you learned or why you're wearing those jean shorts with a t-shirt that is missing it's sleeves.But - back to the point.If I were going to be anywhere fun this weekend (i.e. anywhere hosting reasonably entertaining football) I would need a good outfit. So here they are - straight from dream world.TCU is playing Baylor and believe it or not, it'll actually be a big game in Fort Worth. Now, hopefully we'll score about 1,000 points on the Bears, but students will be out tailgating for sure...and tailgating requires a cute outfit. This one is perfect. Lots of purple, good boots, and cute but simple jewelry.Last year I picked this for the first Georgia football game. I figured a new year required something a little bit sparklier - is sparklier a word? It should be. Maybe that will influence our team to be a bit sparklier on the field, since right now we're looking pretty dull.The best part about wayfarers is that they come in almost every important color - red and purple included.
Other than watching football...I'll be laying by the pool, celebrating engagements, and loving on friends who I haven't seen in a while. We're all planning on grabbing brunch tomorrow morning which makes me REALLY happy. Hopefully at that point at least one of my engaged friends will have made a final decision on her dress - keep your fingers crossed.

The blog is from The New York Times and called "And the Pursuit of Happiness" which began as a documentation of Kalman's trip to the inauguration this past January. It's published on the last Friday of each month and highlights an American icon. I'm in LOVE with this jacket. Does anyone out there owe me an extravagant gift? I would really appreciate it if this would show up at my house without me actually forking over any money for the gorgeousness.
Also - I'm contemplating this berry lipstick. Do we think this berry thing is legitimate? Its definitely a fall color, maybe it would feel lighter and less heavy in a gloss? If I looked like Drew Barrymore I might feel a little bit more confident in this color choice.
On another note...I'm exhausted. There is entirely too much going on at work and when I get home literally all I want to do is sit down and get my brain back to a functioning position. I come home every night feeling like I got hit by a bus. Is everyone else swamped too or is it just us lucky folks who work for CPG brands gearing up for the holiday season?
Speaking of - thinking about Christmas on September 1 is just awkward.

WOW. The lack of blogging is getting out of control. I really apologize to all of you people who are hanging on my every word (Mom).
Just to keep you updated.
1. Two of my best friends ever are getting married!! WHAT? When did we grow up? Sara Emily got engaged a REALLY long time ago (June), but with the lack of blogging I'm not sure I ever mentioned it - and Taylor got engaged on Friday!
2. I wish Birmingham's J.Crew was as big as Northpark's and involved the "party" dresses, all of the handbags and more bathing suits. Random thought.
3. The last couple of weekends we've gone to a bar called Bourbon Street and afterward it takes two shampoos for my hair to stop smelling like cigarettes. WHY do people purposefully subject themselves to that heinousness? Ok, stepping off the soap box now...
4. I really really want a puppy.
5. We have feral cats that live in our yard and they're absolutely disgusting. Last night I had a dream I was pinned to the ground so that I couldn't move and apparently my ability to scream was gone too. A feral cat was trying to eat my face. I think I need to see a therapist.
6. I think I'm going to start cooking. I need suggestions for recipes to try. Oh, and also some lessons. I know you've heard this all before - but I think I'm serious this time. Yesterday I wrote down a list of ingredients for three meals this week. That's a start right?
One of my very best friends is getting married in February (not to be confused with my very best friend who is getting married in July - wooo hooo) so we're throwing a small get together this Saturday night. It's going to be tons of fun to get together with people I haven't seen in a while - and people who are brand new to me! Plus - it will be the first party in the new house. It's been great incentive to get our butts in gear and make it look like a legitimate place to be living.
In honor of this occasion, and the fact that I haven't blogged in about 100 years...here are a few of the things I'm hoping to include in the party planning for this weekend.
Beautiful (and simple) floral arrangements, with burlap (is that burlap?) tablecloths. Lucky for me, my mom works at our church and is letting me tap into the chairs and tables that live there.
Twinkle lights in trees and around the fence in our backyard. Pure magic.
Some sort of delicious sangria, margarita type thing. Something that can go in my new drink dispenser, which is not actually this gorgeous one from Pottery Barn and cost me $20 at Home Goods, maybe in my next life...
We're serving barbecue and my mom has offered to let us use her really pretty pottery as serving pieces. Score. Friends - we're going to have to take care of these!
For dessert, I'm thinking something cold and delicious. Mainly because it's been hot as blue blazes around here lately. My office door fogs up in the afternoon from all of the humidity. It's gross. Maybe something like this, or maybe this, and then this showed up in my email...YUM.
Either way, the whole night is sure to be tons of fun!!
Now...I just need to start making a playlist that will last all night. No repeats. Any suggestions?
One of the blogs I read, Pearls of Wit (who is very funny), wrote a post on this very topic just a few short years ago. Years. Wow. Time flies.
Anyways - I've seen many things on the Anthropologie Sleep & Lounge page that I wouldn't necessarily call pajamas but recently it's just gotten a little bit ridiculous.
I'm certainly not complaining - I mean, they can't very well charge you $200 for pajama pants - but REALLY.
Last week I bought seersucker pants. Drawstring, yes. High wasted, yes. Pajamas, yes. Technically.
Well, I wore them to work the next day (without the cuffs rolled and with really high wedges), and what do you know ... compliments galore.
They've now made their way into a select list of wardrobe items that get worn once a week - black dress from Gap, blue polka dot dress from Banana Republic, red dress from NY&Co. (until I shrunk it up and it's a smidge on the short side) - these pant are in good company.
The things I love most in my closet are the things that look work appropriate on the outside, but are comfortable enough in real life that I don't actually HAVE to change clothes right at 5PM if I don't want to. Sitting at a desk all day in a fitted skirt, or dress pants, or anything that involves Spanx is just not ok. Now, shoes are a whole 'nother story...but I refuse to worry about that. I like pretty shoes, who cares if they're comfortable.
Anthropologie also thinks this is a night shirt. Personally, my night shirts are giant t-shirts. T-shirts with holes, t-shirts with iron-on baseball numbers peeling off the back, t-shirts with bleach spots. All t-shirts. Nothing silky. Specifically, nothing this pretty. And it is REALLY pretty. I tried it on but unfortunately they were out of my size in the pretty purple, and my skin tone doesn't work well with mauve.
Other strange additions to the less-expensive, more pajamaesque area of Anthropologie...
